The Maritime Concert Opera Society is thrilled to invite you, as our friend and supporter, to share the gala celebrations of our 10th season of quality live opera on the South Shore of Nova Scotia!
To begin our celebrations we offer Opening Night at the Opera on Saturday, November 3, 2012 at 7:30 pm at Central United Church in Lunenburg. It’s a reunion of many of the people who have travelled with us along the path from our founding in 2003 to June 2012 and the wonderful success that was Mozart’s The Magic Flute, our first production with orchestra. Soprano Mary Knickle, tenor Lenard Whiting, baritone Andrew Tees, mezzo Nina Scott-Stoddart and music director Tara Scott have all generously donated their time and talents. They are joined by the MCO Chorus for this concert of selections from many of MCO’s past seasons’ productions- a little G & S, a little musical theatre, a little opera. This concert is a dedicated fundraiser with the specific goal of helping MCO to raise extra funds to ensure that this spring’s opera production can also be accompanied by live orchestra. With your usual generosity, please support what will be an evening of glorious music and many fond memories followed by a Meet and Greet reception in the church vestibule.
Again, in January, in celebration of the festive season, MCO will reprise its very popular Amahl and the Night Visitors – produced solely with the local talent for which the South Shore is renowned. There will be two performances in January – one in Bridgewater and the other in Lunenburg. Anyone in our area is welcome to participate in the chorus and to attend this lovely, humour-filled homage to the conclusion of the Christmas story.
Finally, as you have come to expect, MCO will produce its tour of our annual concert opera which, with your help, will again feature live orchestral accompaniment for the Lunenburg performance. Planning is already well underway, but let’s leave this as a little teaser for now- it will be Italian, it will be wonderful and it might make you fall in love!
Come to the party! You can also join us in celebrating fine music by renewing your annual membership and donating to help MCO in its constant quest to increase the quality of our offerings.
Thank you for everything you have done to help and support us over these ten seasons. We look forward to continuing a tradition of fine music with you in mind.
PS: Tickets for Opening Night at the Opera will be available at the usual outlets and at the door!
