Mary Knickle as the Mother and Ruth Ernst as Amahl

Well, we’re starting our final week of rehearsals for MCO’s first Amahl!  Today all the principals meet to review the blocking of the opera, and we have runs, Chorus rehearsals and the dress later this week, for our opening in Bridgewater on Saturday.

It’s going to be a grand show!  Tickets are just $15, $5 for children 12 and under, and are now available at Fultons in Lunenburg, Kinburn Pharmasave in Mahone Bay and Carousel Books in Bridgewater, or you can buy them at the door.

Saturday January 7, 3 pm — Bridgewater United Church
Sunday, January 8, 3 pm — St John’s Anglican Church, Lunenburg

We are having a lovely time rehearsing for Amahl and the Night Visitors!  I first encountered this charming opera as a young woman back in Unionville, Ontario, when I was in my church’s production of it.  My husband was the Page, and our cockatiel had a starring role as the parrot!

Having a chance to direct it, about thirty years later, is such a privilege.  We have an outstanding local cast and the most enthusiastic chorus of shepherds imaginable 🙂  We also have a REAL parrot, Nigel, an African Grey, who simply radiates star quality …

More soon, including photos of the stunning costumes by Anne Morison!
